Considering buying an attack with missing parts
Hi All,
I hope somebody that knows a thing or two will respond. Basically I'm looking at buying a half built K1... again. I keep getting close but have not pulled the trigger. This one might be a good buy but it is missing a few parts. My question is, how easy would it be to get copies of these parts. The seller tells me molds of a few things have been made by somebody. If I buy the kit I'll be reading this entire forum from front to back but until then I don't have time before the car sells. So here are some things missing along with my comments: -Seat pads Easy one here I think. Some foam and leather/cloth and I should be set. -Gauge cluster pod Doesn't this come from the donor car anyway? -3 center gauge pod Kinda a problem but I could fab something myself or go without. -Floor panel This is the center bit. Isn't it just a flat piece of fiberglass? I can fabricate flat stuff I think. -Hoses to run to radiator Umm yea, I can handle hoses lol -Steering coupler (connects steering shaft to rack) This is the first real problem. Is this from the donor car, Accord? I don't have a lick of experience with steering couplers. -Dash This is perhaps the biggest problem. Advice? I wouldn't even know where to start. Thanks all.

Anyone who can prove otherwise, please step up. Quote:
If the dash fiberglas is missing, that's a big ohshit. Yes, something can be fabricated from aluminum, but it's not for weenies without a complete fab shop. And you'd need to take measurements from original parts to know what you need. My project (the EV Attack) appears to be the only active build for some time now. Everyone else sobered up and left the clubhouse a long time ago. Regards, Jeff |

Thanks Jeff,
Yea, I know I'm not the first and won't be the last. I do have fab experience though and want to learn more. I just don't know if I'm ready to do a dash. That is an ohshit as you said. Well I have to think about it. Maybe I can join you as an active build. What state are you located in? I'm in MD. It would be helpful to be able to measure these things.

If you do buy this make sure there is a Certificate of Origin, and the serial number matches... Otherwise you'll have a hell of a time registering it.

There is no certificate so before I buy it I'll be contacting the DMV to make sure I don't have any big problems. Thanks for the advice.

Your going to have to remove the serial number from the front and make the serial under the passenger seat gone. Then claim you built the frame and stuff yourself and register it as a replica K1 Attack. Without the certificate you cannot claim its a real k1 attack, you can only say its a replica.

what exactly would that certificate be? I think the only thing Dick gave me was the invoice when I bought it. I probably have some customs forms or something but thats about it on mine. I dunno its been a while.

Was this provided by K1? It appears to be a document that was generated in the US. Then it appears I'll be having some trouble titling and registering the car as well. I was mistakenly under the impression the stamped portion of the invoice was the necessary item. I asked the original buyer of the kit I purchased second-hand, if there were any other documents with the car. He said there were not. Is it possible that this document wasn't included with some kits? as I understood that Russell (gripmotorsports) does not have this doc either. This is a fine surprise for me too. I am very close to trailering the Attack to the motor vehicle inspection station, and it would be embarrassing to find out then that a critical document is missing. Regards, jeff |
